BAPS HINDU MANDIR
JOHANNESBURG
AFRICA's JEWEL OF HOPE & UNITY
For two months and 20 days between September and November 1793, the child yogi Nilkanth Varni performed austerities at Pulhashram whilst standing on one leg. His gruelling austerities in the frigid conditions on Kartik sud 12.
During the Mughal empire, Hindus were oppressed, temples were destroyed and innocent men, women and children were slaughtered. As one of the first crusaders for Indian independence, Chhatrapatiji Shivaji challenged the Mughal rulers of his time and won many courageous battles. At a time when the Hindu heart bled from hapless inertia and mute oppression, Shivaji revived its pulsating rhythm for independence.
Bapa came to South Africa during a period of unrest. With great effort he was allowed permission. Coming here, he heard of the townships under fire. He wanted to go there and pray for them. Devotees would not allow that and so, they took him in a helicopter, flying above the townships which were literally ablaze. and he showered flowers upon these areas and prayed for them.
Bapa was in hospital sedated but his body emanated Dhun.
The finances of the Akshar Mandir in Gondal was in a precarious state. The masons working at the mandir had to also be paid on a daily basis. Hakabhai who was in charge of writing accounts began worrying on how they would pay the masons. Yogiji Maharaj said that they should pray at the Akshar Deri and Maharaj and Swami would provide the money. Yogiji Maharaj chanted the Swaminarayan Mahamantra for 2 hours. Hakabhai was growing impatient. Just then Morarjibhai Sheth came from Rajkot and offered thirteen hundred rupees as donation.Furthermore an envelope with two thousand rupees had arrived from Shastriji Maharaj. Yogiji Maharaj had remembered Bhagwan and Bhagwan had answered Yogiji Maharaj’s sincere prayers!
